The HP Architecture Planning Tool for Microsoft Lync 2010 is a sizer that generates a quick and easy architectural blueprint of HP server and storage hardware recommendations based on the features and functionality required by Microsoft Lync 2010 topology. HP developed the HP Architecture Planning Tool for Microsoft Lync 2010 to assist customers with proper server and storage sizing by providing a way to fit the specific needs of every customer’s user profile. The core design logic implemented in the tool complies with Microsoft specifications. It is based on “Microsoft Scenario-based Capacity Planning,” available at: http://www.spec.org/cpu2006/results/cpu2006.html#SPECint_rate.

In scenario-based capacity planning, granular capacity planning can be done in a variety of situations without having a specific user workload profile. The algorithms developed in this tool are based upon a number of factors -- extensive testing, the shared history between HP and Microsoft, HP intimate knowledge of server CPU, memory, and I/O systems. The HP Architecture Planning Tool for Microsoft Lync 2010 is being released in the three phases shown. Release 1 is currently available, with Releases 2 and 3, with increased functionality, to follow later in 2012. Although this newest Microsoft sizer is free to download and use, the recommendations created by the tool are for planning purposes only. Actual work load simulation is required to make sure that Lync Server 2010 is adequately provisioned.
