The HP BladeSystem reference configuration for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003 provides an example of how an organization can deploy its Exchange infrastructure in an HP BladeSystem environment. The objective of this configuration is to provide high performance, security, and availability with a lower cost of ownership and a smaller data center footprint than traditional rack or tower server deployments. The white paper first addresses the configuration and setup of the Exchange environment based upon the recommended best practices from the document, “Best practices for deploying Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on HP BladeSystem” available from the HP ActiveAnswers website, www.hp.com/solutions/activeanswers/exchange. The white paper then documents the results of performance verification testing conducted on the HP BladeSystem Exchange environment using Microsoft’s Jetstress and Loadsim test utilities.
