The HP Business Intelligence Sizer for Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 is an automated tool that helps you determine the appropriate hardware configuration for the 4 major components in a Business Intelligence environment. The sizing tool will model configurations for:
1. ETL (Extract, Transformation, and Load) layer using SQL Server Integration Services
2. OLAP cube build using SQL Server Analysis Services
3. Queries accessing data used in a data warehousing ROLAP (Relational Online Analytical Processing) environment
4. Queries executed against OLAP cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services
The tool was developed by HP in our software integration lab and the HP Business Intelligence Advanced Technology Center (BI-ATC) to support the implementation of business intelligence systems using SQL Server 2005/2008 and Microsoft Windows Server. The HP Business Intelligence Sizer for Microsoft SQL Server supports the HP server family and appropriate options. It is important to note that the tool is not an automated “reference configuration selector” designed to look like a sizing tool, it models customer specific workloads by taking advantage of atomic modeling algorithms.
The HP Business Intelligence Sizer will interview you for the workload specifications of your BI server environment. From this information, a recommended hardware configuration is created. Specific configuration information, down to the part number level as well as performance information is reported for the configuration. You will be able to custom tune it to your particular environment, by adding or substituting components. The HP Business Intelligence Sizer for Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 allows you to save and retrieve saved configurations. You can also create printable views of your desired configurations to print or email as required.
