The HP Sizer for Microsoft SQL Server (2008 R2 Fast Track 3.0/2012 Fast Track 4.0) Data Warehouse is an automated tool that helps you determine the appropriate SQL Server data warehouse hardware configuration for your environment. The tool was developed by HP in our software integration lab to support the implementation of SQL Server 2008 R2 Fast Track 3.0 and SQL Server 2012 Fast Track 4.0 Data Warehouse systems using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2012 respectively. It supports the HP ProLiant server family and appropriate options.
The Microsoft SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse configurations for Hewlett-Packard (HP) servers, storage and networking products provides a prescriptive approach for balancing server, storage, network and software configurations for architecting Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse solutions. The Fast Track architecture and methodology are exclusively designed for, and are only applicable to, sequential data workloads. Use of this approach on other workload types is not appropriate and may yield configurations that are inefficient. All recommendations and best practices defined in the Microsoft Fast Track Data Warehouse Architecture, SQL Server technical article, must be implemented in their entirety in order to preserve and maintain the sequential order of the data and sequential I/O against the data.
The sizer will interview you for the workload specifications of your data warehouse server environment. From this information, a recommended hardware configuration is created. The sizer allows you to save and retrieve configurations and create views of your desired configurations to print or email as required.
