This new version provides HP ProLiant server and storage sizing guidelines for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 solutions, incorporating the results from HP's solutions engineering labs and characterization testing to provide configuration details for Exchange 2007 Server roles including mailbox servers, hub transport servers, client access servers, edge servers and unified messaging servers. Included is support for high availability solutions including Local Continuous Replication, Cluster Continuous Replication, and Single Copy Clusters. HP’s StorageWorks Sizing tool is also integrated, providing the ability to size a SAN or DAS infrastructure as part of the Exchange environment. This tool provides a choice of server platforms including BL, DL, and ML configured with either Intel or AMD processors.

The tool generates recommendations based on a combination of user technical and business requirement input, and best practices recommendations for highly available, high performance Exchange deployments.

Known issues:

  1. Customization of online spares (drive counts) fails
  2. Customization of local storage. The volumes table may show an incomplete disk count (''Disk Qty''), indicating volumes for only one of multiple servers configured. The correct counts are shown in the solution details and Bill of Materials screens.
  3. Customization of internal controllers. Conditions can arise where internal controllers are offered in the customization screens which are not viable– a harmless situation where a “sizing failed” message is shown and the choice reverts to the previous setting.
  4. For heavy workloads showing high Outlook Voice Access percentage values, the sizer may configure more Unified Messaging servers than are actually required. A fix for this error will be posted in November 2008.
